I co-founded Lance and served as CTO from February 2019 to January 2023. We built a banking product for freelancers on Unit’s embedded-finance API, reaching 6,000 customers and raising $3M.
Within a three-person team, I wrote most of the code across a React Native application and a Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and Prisma backend.

The experience
An independent point of view.
The website introduces Lance through a simple picture of money coming in and finding its destination. Manrope typography, a blue signature mark, and a dark canvas connect the brand to the product.
A home for the everyday details.
The production app brings the account balance and transaction history together, then turns budgeting into a collection of distinct money stacks. Allocation controls make the split between salary, savings, and other goals visible.
A different color for every purpose.
The colorful stacks carry the same idea across the website and app. Salary, savings, and taxes each have a recognizable identity, making the financial system easier to scan and understand.
What holds it together.
Build close to the customer.
A small team shipped the mobile and backend systems around the needs of independent professionals.
Own the critical path.
The banking experience was built directly on Unit’s embedded-finance API.
